The Greenpeace Design Awards 2009

Sydney, Australia — The Greenpeace Design Awards 2009 are now open.

The awards, hosted by Greenpeace Australia Pacific in conjunction with UniLife Inc. and the University of South Australia, were created to help raise awareness of environmental issues through innovation and creativity.

Open to entrants worldwide from 1 March-15 June 2009, the brief is to design a poster that delivers the message ‘Be a Part of the Action’. Peaceful direct action is one of Greenpeace’s core values, and visual communication has always played a strong role in Greenpeace campaigns.

Greenpeace fundraising director Chris Washington-Sare said, “We’re looking for visually striking designs that convey the message ‘Be a Part of the Action’. We hope to motivate the global creative community to develop inspiring artwork that, in turn, encourages the public to take action on critical environmental issues.

“Posters have always played a big part in cause-related campaigns. They can shift attitudes and contribute to significant changes within society as a result,” he said.

Winners, highly commended and shortlisted entries will be listed on the Greenpeace Design Awards website and exhibited at the Civic Gallery in Adelaide from 2 July to 4 August 2009. The Civic Gallery will also host an awards ceremony on Friday 31 July, where winners will be presented with a unique trophy.
